Cassidian Communications Awards Contract to Avtec for P25 Dispatching Console System for City of Montréal
GILBERT, S.C. (April 30, 2013) – Avtec today announced that it has been granted a contract by Cassidian Communications, an EADS North America company, to supply 63 consoles that will be used to provide emergency dispatching services for the more than three million residents who live in the city of Montréal, Canada and surrounding suburbs. This is part of a 15-year SÉRAM (système évolué de radiocommunication de l'agglomération de Montréal) contract awarded to Cassidian Communications by the City of Montréal Agglomeration Council.
Cassidian Communications, which will provide the digital, trunked Project 25 (P25) Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure for the project, reports that the new consolidated network will “cover the entire 496 square-kilometer territory of Montréal, and will support more than 4,500 police officers, close to 2,000 firefighters, and over 2,000 public works personnel.”
Avtec’s P25 consoles run on Internet Protocol (IP) networks, and are fully integrated with Cassidian Communication’s P25-compliant CORP25 radio system. “Partnering with Avtec allows us to provide a reliable end-to-end communications system for the city of Montréal,” said Cassidian Communications’ Product Line Manager, Bill Book. “We look forward to working with Avtec on this important project.”
“Using P25 standards and pure IP dispatching consoles will allow first responders to collaborate and communicate with other public safety networks, including the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport and the Montréal Metro systems,” said Avtec President Michael Branning. “Selecting a system based on open standards gives the city of Montréal the ability to lower the total cost of ownership while implementing a leading-edge communications solution.”
