Air New Zealand sign contract for Aventus Nowcast™

AVTECH Sweden AB has entered into another commercial contract for its Aventus NowCast™ product system, this time with Air New Zealand.

Over a short period of time, AVTECH has closed another, strategically important, contract in terms of its wind product, Aventus NowCast™. Aventus NowCast™ has shown great savings of fuel per approach in live trials and operations. The system also reduces the environmental impact in terms of noise and emissions. Moreover, it enables the aircraft to meet required time of arrival (RTA) within seconds, through which gains are seen to be even larger than the direct fuel savings.

New Zealand is a country characterized by a willingness to readily embrace newly invented technologies, in particular for environmental reasons. Fuel efficiency in transportation is a priority as part of the overall government environmental policy in New Zealand. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in New Zealand has had an implementation plan for PBN (Performance Based Navigation) in place since the end of 2009 and the policy was issued in April 2012. Implementing Time Based Operations (TBO) is therefore another important step for environmentally conscious countries, like New Zealand, seeking to make long-term environmental progress.

“This agreement with AVTECH represents a significant step forward in our goal of achieving a truly perfect descent and arrival. Under our environmental strategy Air New Zealand have already implemented initiatives that have resulted in more continuous descents, reduced ATC intervention, and the use of tailored arrivals or RNP AR procedures to reduce track miles. Time based 4DT technology is the final step in the journey towards a perfect descent. Air New Zealand looks forward to working with AVTECH in implementing their 4DT technology to further optimise the aircraft descent and arrivals.“ says Bob Fletcher, Air New Zealand’s Manager Operations Support.

“Previously, another airline in the Middle East has already begun implementing, and thereby solving the challenges of, Time Based Operations (TBO) using the Aventus NowCast™ system. Time Based Operations (TBO) is a key step in the implementation of Performance Based Operations (PBO), which opens up new possibilities to operate aircraft more efficiently than done today.” says Wolfgang Sagmeister, Business Unit Director of Products & Marketing at AVTECH Sweden.
