Axel Johnson International has entered into an agreement to acquire the majority of the shares in Caldan Conveyor A/S. As a niche supplier within industrial automation, Caldan has a leading position in the European market, 130 employees and a long history of profitable growth.

Headquartered outside Aarhus, Denmark, Caldan is an industrial automation company designing, manufacturing, installing and commissioning overhead and floor conveyors for the surface treatment industry. The company was originally founded in 1963 and delivers systems to customers across the world in a variety of industries.

Shaped into its current form in 1994 by the two brothers Niels and Jens Calundan, Caldan has grown significantly and is today one of the market leaders in its niche in Europe and a strong player in the Asian and North American markets. The acquisition of Caldan is well aligned with Axel Johnson International’s long-term strategy to provide complete technical solutions for a variety of industrial customers. Caldan will become an integral part of Axel Johnson International’s recently formed industrial automation segment and part of the business group Industrial Solutions.

“The acquisition of Caldan is an exciting opportunity to expand our position within industrial automation” says Martin Malmvik, CEO of Axel Johnson International. “With Caldan, we acquire a majority stake in a business with a really strong market position, and we are eager to start working with the management team to support them on their growth journey.”

“Becoming part of Axel Johnson International will create many new opportunities for Caldan’s customers, business partners and employees, and we look forward to continuing to lead the company” say the two CEOs Jens and Niels Calundan. “Being part of a big industrial group enables us to further expand Caldan’s global footprint and together we will work to continuously serve our customers with the best technical solutions. We take pride in announcing that this next strategic step for Caldan is made on the back of continued success and profitable growth.”

Caldan will continue to operate under its current brand name as part of Axel Johnson International’s Industrial Solutions business group. The current owners will remain involved and retain a minority ownership position, thereby aligning owner incentives while creating a strong sense of partnership between the two parties. The transaction is subject to clearance by relevant, local competition authorities.
