As part of its efforts to increase focus on environmental and social responsibility issues, Axfood has recruited Åsa Domeij as its new head of environmental affairs.

Åsa Domeij is an agronomist with many years of experience in environmental issues. This includes two terms as head of environmental issues in Swedish parliament for the Environmental Party, 1988-1991 and 2002-2006.

Domeij served as a member of parliament from 1988 to 1991 for the Environmental Party and was a member of the environmental and agricultural committee.

In 1992 Domeij began working as a consultant for Satellitbild AB, and in 1994 she took a position as a government adviser on environmental technology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

Following a leave of absence for parliamentary service from 2002 to 2006, as a member of parliament for the Environmental Party and vice chair of the environmental and agricultural committee, Domeij returned to SLU in autumn 2006, where she works today. She also chaired the environmental and health safety board in Uppsala from 1994 to 2002.

“Åsa Domeij will be a strong force in Axfood’s work on further developing our environmental initiatives,” says Anders Strålman, President and CEO of Axfood AB. “Her broad base of experience in environmental issues will raise Axfood’s competence in environmental matters, and I look forward to seeing her join us soon.”

Åsa Domeij will assume her new position on 1 March 2008.
