Axfood has acquired the Vi supermarket at Skanstull in Stockholm. The supermarket has total sales of approximately SEK 120 million, with about 40 employees. The supermarket will be taken over on August 30 and will be converted into a Hemköp supermarket.

“The acquisition is fully in line with the strategy of strengthening our position in the Stockholm market,” says Anders Strålman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Axfood. “The supermarket at Skanstull is located in a strategically important area in the southern part of central Stockholm. It is a densely populated area, a factor that provides excellent conditions for healthy sales.”

Retail space in the supermarket that Axfood is acquiring totals approximately 2,200 square meters. Following the acquisition, the supermarket will offer customers a wide variety of fresh products, fresh ready-cooked meals and a wide range of fruit and vegetables. The current employees of the supermarket will be offered employment in Hemköp.

“We are delighted by this transaction,” says Per Uebel, President of Hemköp. “Following the acquisition, we will have a total of 16 supermarkets in the Stockholm area, including three in the city center.”

The supermarket is sold by RP Supermarket Förvaltning AB. The acquisition is subject to the approval of the Competition Authority.
