Axfood Närlivs awarded contract with Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven chains On Thursday, 26 August, Axfood Närlivs AB signed an agreement with AB Svensk Pressbyrån and Scandinavian Convenience Sweden AB, which run the Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven convenience store chains, respectively, in Sweden. With effect on 1 January 2005, Axfood Närlivs will supply newsstand and food products to Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven. Beginning in 2005 Axfood Närlivs will be the main supplier of groceries as well as refrigerated and frozen products to the more than 320 stores of the Pressbyrån chain and the 75 stores of the 7-Eleven chain. The agreement will remain in effect through 2005 and covers deliveries worth a combined total of approximately SEK 300 m per year. The products will be picked at Axfood Närlivs' warehouse and distributed via Axfood Närlivs' distribution organization. Axfood Närlivs is a cash & carry wholesale business with the business concept of offering a complete system of products, marketing concepts and support for convenience store operators. The company had approximately 750 employees in 2003, with sales of SEK 4,779 m. "We are very happy to have won the confidence to deliver to Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven," says Benny Hast, President of Axfood Närlivs. "They are both market leaders in their respective segments and well recognized brands that are appreciated by customers. Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven are both distinguished by a high standard of quality. It will be stimulating for us to be their new main supplier." Johannes Sangnes, President of AB Svenksa Pressbyrån, comments: "Axfood won this contract in competition with several others. We chose Axfood because they had the most competitive offering. Axfood will be the wholesaler and distributor for our stores throughout Sweden." Axfood Närlivs is an open wholesaling operation.
