Tuesday, 10 February, marks the inauguration of Danish Crown's new meat packing plant. The plant, which was built to package meat for Axfood, is Sweden's most modern meat processing plant and will handle the packaging of most of the meat sold by Willys and Hemköp.

Danish Crown has built its new plant in Torsvik, about 6 km south of Jönköping. The plant has been built exclusively for deliveries to Axfood and is now ready for operation. A new way of working with meat will be rolled across Axfood's chains in February.

"We will be delivering products that stick out," says Torbjörn Lithell, head of the Meats business area at Axfood. "These will include new and different cuts, sausages and seasonal products such as meats for barbequing during the summer and special products for the Christmas season. All-in-all the plant gives us a high degree of flexibility. In this way we can offer customers a varied selection, which translates to a wider selection of meat products every day of the week plus longer shelf life."

Axfood chose Danish Crown as its meat packing partner because it has demonstrated that it can provide the most modern solutions and the highest quality. Danish Crown is one of Europe's leading meat producers, with a number of state-of-the-art packaging plants throughout Europe.

Axfood will continue to buy meat from the same suppliers as previously. The agreement with Danish Crown covers only packaging.
