Axfood’s customers donated more than SEK 2 million to Save the Children in 2010.

Willys, Hemköp, Tempo, PrisXtra and Axfood Snabbgross all conducted collection activities during the year. The greatest impact was achieved by fitting recycling machines at Willys and PrisXtra stores with a “donation” button. Axfood became the organization’s main partner in Sweden in spring 2010.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming response from our customers,” says Anne Rhenman-Eklund, Head of Corporate Communications at Axfood. “In one year’s time Axfood has become Save the Children’s second largest sponsor in Sweden, which is something we are very proud about.”

Special campaign weeks were also carried out during the year, where one krona was donated to Save the Children for every krona of Garant Ekologiska products sold. Axfood Snabbgross gave its customers the option of rounding up their purchases by five kronor. Other activities during the year included sales of Save the Children pins and a potato auction at PrisXtra for the year’s first fresh potatoes.

In connection with the disaster in Haiti, a lump-sum donation was made, and money donated via recycling machines was steered there. During the rest of the year, funds collected in the machines were donated to an education project in Ivory Coast.
