Axis Communications has signed an agreement with Italian public transportation company Circumvesuviana for the delivery of a substantial number of AXIS 2400 Video Servers. Together with local partners, Vegstor Systems and Ducati Sistemi, Axis was chosen to deliver a user friendly and cost-effective video surveillance solution for Circumvesuviana's trains in Naples.

Circumvesuviana is one of the oldest public transportation companies in Italy, operating trains, buses and chairlift services in and around the city of Naples. Like most transportation companies in Europe, Circumvesuviana spends a lot of effort to protect coaches from vandalism as well as to increase passenger security. The decision to invest in an onboard video surveillance solution was taken as a cost-effective measure to heighten security and minimize damage to the coaches. The solution, which will first be implemented onboard the company's trains, consists of micro cameras that will be attached to AXIS 2400 Video Servers. This allows for remote access as well as recording of live video, which can be used as investigative material and as potential evidence. Providing the implementations on Circumvesuviana's trains meet expectations, the same solutions will also be installed on the company's buses and chairlift services. "The need for a reliable surveillance solution for a company like ours is obvious. First of all, our passengers must feel safe when using our services, and secondly, vandalism and crime costs us a lot of money," said Mr. Fernando Origo, General Coordinator of Circumvesuviana.
