Axis First to Announce Pricing of Bluetooth Network Access Point

The Axis Communications solution for Internet access via Bluetooth(TM) wireless technology, the AXIS 9010 Bluetooth Access Point, will begin global volume delivery in Q1 2001. Smaller volumes are available through the Mobile Internet Partner Program. The price is set at $495. The, AXIS 9010, was first shown in May 2000. It is already being tested and evaluated with selected partners. The Bluetooth Access Point is a central building block in the Axis solution for mobile Internet access for Bluetooth wireless technology. A solution in which a system of local mobile networks are created in public environments, such as airports, hotels and shopping centers. Users of laptops, personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones and other mobile devices that are equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology can use the Access Point to make a broadband connection to the Internet without having to detour through a mobile phone network. They also have access to e-mail, their corporate network, as well as localized information. The solution gives businesses such as hotels, airports and shopping centers the opportunity to become their own mobile Internet service provider. The Axis solution will be previewed at the following events: Telecom Asia 2000, Hong Kong , December 4-9, 2000 The Bluetooth Developers' Conference, San Jose, Calif.
