Axis Communications today introduced a new digital video recorder that dramatically improves performance of video surveillance systems. The AXIS 2460 Network DVR offers significantly longer video storing time, increased stability and security together with increased accessibility.

One of the key issues facing the video surveillance market has traditionally been that it to a certain extent has been dependent on human interaction to perform vital system tasks. Since surveillance video used to be stored on traditional video tapes, the reliability of the systems were dependent on the human factor for exchanging tapes, maintenance of the VCR mechanics and the wear and tear of the actual tapes. With the introduction of the AXIS 2460 Network DVR, video recording and storage no longer needs to be the weak link in any security solution. AXIS 2460 offers much longer storage time compared to earlier solutions, the system can handle up to 150 days of video storage, with constant high image quality, thanks to Axis's APVIS technology (patent pending). Other benefits with the AXIS 2460 DVR includes secure storage, with distribution of stored images on several disks to limit lost information in case of hard disk failure. The solution can also be accessed from any web browser and provides the user with an easy-to-use graphical interface for remote viewing and image searching without any extra software or hardware needed. US industry analyst firm, J.P Freeman predicts (Report on Remote and Networked Video Surveillance Market 2002) that the market for remote and networked video surveillance will grow in a fast rate. The US market for remote and networked video factory revenues is forecast to average between 40% and 50% growth over the next five years. Another trend predicted by J.P Freeman is that digital solutions will take over an increasing share of the recorder market.
