Axis signs volume orders on development platforms

Axis Communications today announced three new orders for its Device Server Platform, which are development kits for companies developing their own solutions based on Axis' technology. The orders further prove the strength of Axis' technology for network connectivity and its commitment towards third-party developers. Initially the orders are worth about 200,000 Euros.

Besides products sold under Axis' own brand and OEM sales, Axis' technology is also sold to third-party developers who build applications based on the ETRAX 100LX platform. The three volume orders are from two U.S. companies and one Australian company, who are developing their own products based on a generic OEM board from Axis. In these cases, the boards are used in three very different applications: the first, in an installation for a large retail chain; the second, in a custom office application; and the third, in a local area wireless solution. Axis' Device Server Platform are shipped product-ready; therefore, customers do not need to spend any time on hardware development, tests for authority approvals or buying and programming Ethernet addresses. When the application is ready, the software can simply be loaded to the Device Server Platform using FTP (File Transfer Protocol), or through Axis' flash load method. To improve time-to-market for internal development initiatives and to further strengthen its technology offering, Axis is also introducing a new generation of chips. The new ETRAX MCM, basically a Linux computer with a total size of 27x27 millimeters, enables faster development cycles and design of new miniaturized Linux products. Axis is committed to open-source development and actively supports application development on Axis' technology.
