Axis Communications has signed an agreement with Swedish security specialists, Rosengrens SafePay AB, for the delivery of a large number of Axis' ETRAX developer boards to be used as an integrated part of the SafePay cash handling solution. The initial agreement covers shipments in excess of 100,000 Euros, including already received orders. However, the long-term commitment between Axis and Rosengrens SafePay AB is expected to generate orders of over 200,000 Euros on an annual basis.

Increasing security and decreasing time and effort spent on handling cash is a key focus for many retailers today. Apart from obvious risks like robbery and money lost by theft or negligence by employees, inefficient cash handling can impose large administrative costs for a retail company. Addressing this market need, Rosengrens SafePay AB has developed SafePay, an enclosed high-security cash handling system. SafePay is designed to improve security; prevent cash discrepancies, and to permit safe transport to banks or cash-counting centers. To get a complicated system like this to operate in a reliable and user-friendly way, intelligent network connectivity is a key ingredient. With Axis' developer boards acting as central hubs in each cash station, the solution opens up for better control and significantly decreased administrative needs. "Security, flexibility and reliability are some of the most important cornerstones in our SafePay offering and that's also what makes Axis the ideal technology partner for us," said Gunnar Konkell, President of Rosengrens SafePay AB. "Axis' chip technology is well known for its reliability and we feel confident that we couldn't have found a better solution to add the necessary network connectivity capabilities to SafePay. In regards of sales expectations we see great opportunities in the near future and we have already signed agreements with major retail companies." Axis is committed to open-source development and actively supports application development on Axis' technology.
