Azelio Business Update: The installation project with the first TES.POD in Dubai has started
“I am delighted that the first commercial installation project with our energy storage system, TES.POD®, has started. We have thereby completed our key targets for 2020; to verify the energy storage system, and to win and start the installation of our first commercial order” says Azelio’s CEO Jonas Eklind.
Azelio announced on December 9, 2020 that it will install its energy storage system, TES.POD® in Dubai. There it will be part of a mini-grid that will power a visitor center in the Noor Energy 1 project, which is the fourth phase of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBR) Solar Complex in Dubai. The world’s largest CSP plant.
The installation project has now started with preparatory work on site. On December 20, a team from Azelio and ALEC Energy visited the site where the TES.POD® will store energy generated by a Solar PV field dedicated to powering the visitor center.
The set-up in the mini-grid system will be a good illustration of how Azelio’s long-duration storage can enable a global green transition. Although this is a small system, challenges are similar in larger grids.
“The beauty of our storage system is that it is ideal for dispatchable and clean baseload power. It is optimized for daily cycling and stores energy at very competitive cost compared to both renewable and fossil technologies. This makes the TES.POD® unique, and perfect to combine with solar energy,” says Azelio’s CEO Jonas Eklind.
The basis of the system powering the visitor center is 300 kW of solar PV, that generate electricity for the visitor center during sun hours. At the same time it charges Azelio’s TES.POD® that is able to dispatch electricity on demand during the dark hours and at times during the day when direct production is not sufficient.
