WO2 Ron Sewell from the 4th Battalion The Parachute Regiment based at Thornbury Barracks, Pudsey, stopped by Barbour House last week to collect some Barbour jackets and polo shirts ahead of the Help for Heroes 4X4 European Rally.  The South Shields-based heritage and lifestyle brand has donated clothing to the team, who are taking part in the rally to raise funds for The Parachute Regiment Charity.

‘Team Parachute Regiment’ is Car number 1 out of 50, with the team travelling in a vehicle donated by Jaguar Land Rover.

The award-winning Help for Heroes 4×4 European Rally has raised over £300,000 since its launch on Armed Forces Day 2010.  The journey began on Saturday 16th June 2012 at Littlecote House Hotel in North Wiltshire and follows the path of the Allied Invasion through Europe, including locations featured in the fabled “Band of Brothers” book and TV series.  After using byways on Salisbury Plain, the team will then travel to Portsmouth to embark on the ferry over to France.  This 2000mile / 3200km expedition will encompass 6 European countries over a period of 12 days, concluding in Bavaria, Germany.

Lorraine Morgan, Customer Services Manager, commented, ‘We’re delighted to be supporting the 4th Battalion The Parachute Regiment on a journey that will raise money for such a good cause.  The Duralinen International Jacket is an authentic motorcycle style that will suit the team as they are touring, whilst the Polo Shirts will come in useful in the warmer weather that they are bound to encounter when travelling through Europe.’

2012 marks the 70th Anniversary of the raising of 4 PARA and is destined to be another momentous year for the Battalion.  It follows hard on the heels of a year during which 4 PARA soldiers and Officers yet again supported the Regular Battalions on operations in Afghanistan.

Today, 4 PARA stands proudly as the nation’s only Reserve Parachute Battalion, providing more soldiers for operations than any other Reserve Unit.  To maintain this outstanding record, the Battalion is constantly looking to recruit high-calibre people.  For an initial discussion, those interested are invited to get in touch with Major Steve Boardman MBE, 4 PARA’s Recruiting Officer, by emailing Stephen.boardman126@mod.uk or calling 01904 664523.
