Barbour unveils its William Morris print range.
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful,” declared textile designer and decorative visionary William Morris, whose 19th century floral prints make their clothing debut in Barbour’s Autumn Winter 12 ladies Lifestyle collection.
The range, which will be available worldwide from August this year, features two patterns from Morris & Co’s extensive archives. Marigold, was designed by Morris in 1875 at a time when his designs were becoming more intricate, full of fluidity and movement. It was one of the few designs he produced for both wallpaper and fabric. Strawberry Thief was inspired by a real life problem for many gardeners. Morris tried to grow strawberries at Kelmscott Manor but found they were often eaten by greedy birds.
Balancing Morris’s twin ideals of utility and beauty, Barbour’s AW12 garments include the Morris Utility Jacket a multi pocketed fitted wax jacket with the interior lining featuring the beautiful Morris prints. Barbour’s popular quilt jacket will also feature these linings in the Morris Quilt jacket and is available in both brown and olive - colours that complement the reds and browns in the Morris prints perfectly.
Bags also feature with the Morris Print Reiver Bag now carrying the statement ‘Marigold’ and ‘Strawberry Thief’ prints, trimmed with sturdy leather and lined with bonded fabrics to provide Barbour’s trademark durability.
