Barbour, the clothing brand famed for its durable, protective and stylish outerwear, has introduced an exciting new selection of knitwear pieces to its Autumn Winter collection this season. The pieces, which feature across both Barbour’s Lifestyle and Heritage collections, offer stand-out layering options for the colder seasons ahead.

In the Lifestyle collection, the women’s knitwear pieces showcase the high quality that Barbour has become known for, with luxurious fabrics including supersoft lambswool and rich cashmere featuring throughout. The hero pieces in this collection include the Corbridge Cardigan, a military inspired knit with chunky rib stitching and shiny metal buttons, and the Hinsbridge knit, an incredibly flattering cardigan that is sure to be a staple of the winter wardrobe, available in winter-warming hues of oatmeal, dark charcoal and rich olive.

In the Men’s Lifestyle collection, style and function come together in the form of the Kirkham Shawl and the Clifton Chunky Shawl Cardi, both 100% lambswool chunky knits with trademark Barbour football buttons. For bold print lovers, fairisle patterns feature widely in the collection this season, offering a contemporary twist on the traditional jumper in the Lambourne Crew Neck, the Witham Shawl Neck and the Orwell Shawl Neck.

In the Ladies’ Heritage collection, the slouchy Longwitten Boyfriend Cardigan is a real statement piece. Featuring an oversized fit and sleek suede elbow patches, the Longwitten is the chic way to stay warm this winter. Likewise, the Lodgemead Cable Crew neck, a shrunken slim-fitting cable stitched jumper, looks set to be the winter knit of choice in its seasonal palette of dark charcoal, olive green, cream or berry red.

Knitted dresses offer an alternative way to wrap up warm, with the chunky Jesmond Knitted dress and the striped Haliford Knit giving a sleek and subtle silhouette - both will look great teamed with winter woolly tights and Barbour wellington boots on cold, rainy days.

For men, the Heritage collection offers more modern silhouettes whilst still retaining the quality and durability that Barbour is known for. The Brayford Crew is an example of this: a heavy weight birdseye stitch textured knit in 80% wool, this piece encapsulates Barbour sturdiness whilst also giving a nod to sleek styling with its statement smooth leather elbow patches. Colour also features and is celebrated boldly in the Catch and Reed Zip Through Knits, both of which feature duck and fish jacquard, referencing the outdoor sporting tradition at the heart of Barbour’s roots. These pieces look great when layered with Barbour shirts and t-shirts.

AW12 also sees the first full collection of children’s knitwear. The Lynton Pullover for boys is the perfect winter warmer – a fuss-free but utterly soft and warm cotton cashmere blend crew neck in charcoal, navy or chilli red. For girls, the Owl Intarsia Knit in 100% lambswool is set to become the favourite jumper of the season.

Plus, with all knits across the Autumn Winter 2012 collection produced with the highest quality wools and leathers, a Barbour knit is sure to see its wearer through many a cold winter, year after year.
