Digital Marketplace will simplify Basware e-procurement and e-invoicing for government organisations

London, UK, 17 March 2015 – Basware, the leading provider of e-invoicing and purchase-to-pay solutions, is pleased to announce that it has joined the UK government’s G-Cloud Digital Marketplace. Its presence on G-Cloud 6 – the latest iteration of the framework – will make it substantially easier for public sector bodies to procure Basware solutions and deliver dramatic back office savings through payment automation.

Public sector organisations in the UK process millions of payments each year, representing a significant allocation of public resources. Basware’s cloud-based financial solutions will enable government bodies to operate more efficiently by automating the accounts payable process, freeing up time and money that can be invested in frontline services.

With annual expenditure of almost three quarters of a trillion pounds, the public sector has a huge impact on the wider UK economy,” says Stephen Carter, Head of e-invoicing Centre of Excellence at Basware. “A recent parliamentary inquiry found that e-invoicing could save the public sector and its suppliers at least £2 billion per year. These savings could then be fed directly back into the economy, to protect frontline jobs and improve services.

Basware coming to the G-Cloud means that public sector bodies of all sizes will now have simple, direct access to our e-invoicing and payment automation solutions. This will result in better cash flow for the public sector, and release working capital back into the economy to enable growth.”

Established in 2012, the G-Cloud was set up to allow government organisations to procure cloud services without having to resort to a full-length tender process. Software providers offer their services at a designated price point, and public sector bodies can only purchase the specific service that is outlined in the service description, at the specific price displayed. This provides a degree of certainty for both parties in a centralised marketplace that is tightly regulated.

In order to be accepted on to the G-Cloud framework, Basware solutions were submitted for approval against a strict set of evaluation criteria and assurance checks. Having completed the assessment process, solutions for e-invoicing and e-ordering, outbound council rate demands, and Basware’s complete InvoiceReady capture and accounts payable solutions are now available via the G-Cloud.

Efficient back office operations not only free up capital, they create more transparent and productive procurement processes,” continues Mr Carter. “With almost all parts of the public sector under pressure to make savings and demonstrate value for money, e-invoicing is an obvious choice moving forward. Basware’s public sector footprint is growing all the time, and our arrival in the government’s Digital Marketplace will help us further expand our presence in this vital part of the economy.”
