Houston, TX – April 29, 2025 – The Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN) announces its 9th International Energy Summit (IES), taking place June 10–12, 2025, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Istanbul, Türkiye. This year’s theme, “Energy Crossroads: Meeting Society’s Energy Needs in a Changing World,” reflects the urgent need for cooperation, innovation, and resilience across the global energy sector.

Mike Beirne, outgoing AIEN President 2024–2025, says: “As energy professionals, we’re navigating an incredibly dynamic environment, from geopolitical instability to rapidly evolving technology and shifting public expectations. The 2025 IES is about facing those head-on, looking at how we deliver secure, affordable, and sustainable energy to a world that’s changing faster than ever.”

The three-day program will feature panels and workshops exploring the expanding role of LNG, regional shifts in the energy mix, financing structures for low-carbon projects, and the development of model contracts supporting energy transitions. With Istanbul positioned at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, this year’s summit offers an ideal forum for cross-continental dialogue and strategic thinking.

Shakwa Nyambe, incoming AIEN President 2025–2026, adds: “Energy markets and energy challenges are becoming more global, more integrated, and more complex. IES 2025 gives us the opportunity to address these complexities with real-world insights, particularly from emerging markets and developing nations. I’m proud to help lead AIEN as we continue broadening our scope to support a more diverse and sustainable energy community.”

The 2025 program reflects the rapid expansion of AIEN’s membership base – of traditional oil and gas to include those working in wind, solar, nuclear, hydrogen, and emerging technologies.

As in previous years, globally recognized experts and high-profile speakers will offer diverse perspectives, knowledgeable insights, and practical solutions on these issues and challenges currently facing the international energy industry. In Istanbul, these will include:

  • Ahmet Türkoğlu, Chairman & CEO, Turkish Petroleum (TPAO)
  • Colin Allan, VP Finance AGT (Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey) Region, bp
  • Tim Stedman, CEO, Storegga
  • Elchin Ibadov, CEO, SOCAR Türkiye
  • John King, General Counsel, ADNOC Gas
  • Leonardo Sempertegui, General Legal Counsel, OPEC
  • John Ardil, Global VP Exploration & New Ventures, ExxonMobil
  • Liz Schwartze, VP Global Exploration, Chevron

Attendees can expect a mix of high-level debate and technical insight, with sessions on collaboration across the region, energy challenges in developing nations, geopolitical reconfiguration, and the legal and financial tools needed to drive meaningful change in energy delivery worldwide.

John Bridges, Executive Director of AIEN, says: “Our organization has evolved dramatically in just the past five years. We’re not only talking about oil and gas anymore, we’re now being asked to develop host agreements and advise on nuclear frameworks. The shift is happening, and our members are right at the center of it. Istanbul is a place where global perspectives can come together in a spirit of openness. It offers the kind of setting that encourages thoughtful dialogue and fresh thinking on the complex challenges facing our industry.”
