AIEN’s International Energy Summit will focus on The Energy Evolution: Energy Diversification for a Lower Carbon World
The Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN) announces its next International Energy Summit (IES), to be held from June 11-13 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event will reflect the diverse needs of its membership and the wider energy community.
Mike Beirne, incoming AIEN President for 2024-2025, says, “Global events over the last few years have brought energy security and affordability to the forefront. At the same time, energy needs are growing even as the world strives to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The theme of this year’s event focuses on the complex challenge of how to provide affordable and reliable energy the world requires in the most environmentally responsible manner.”
John Bridges, AIEN Executive Director, explains, “We are the caretakers of the planet. We have to diversify into a lower carbon world in order to live up to the ethical calling of our responsibility. As an organization, we see how energy has evolved mankind. We are at a point now where we need to keep the energy going for the world to evolve but at the same time as caretakers, we have to address climate change, and this comes down to managing carbon. At the IES, we will be focusing on what we as an industry are doing and how we’re supporting that transition.”
As in previous years, globally recognized experts and high-profile speakers will offer diverse perspectives, knowledgeable insights, and practical solutions on these issues and challenges currently facing the international energy industry. In Bangkok, these will include:
- Montri Rawanchaikul, CEO and President, PTTEP
- Adif Zulkifli, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Upstream, Petronas
- Luca Vignati, Upstream Director, ENI
- Dr. Sean Guest, CEO, Valeura Energy Limited
- Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director, ASEAN Centre for Energy
- Joe Cummings, Award Winning Travel Journalist and Editor-at-Large, CNN
Members will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss key topics, including: Is Natural Gas Still Relevant to the Energy Evolution?; How, What, Where and When Does Hydrogen Fit into the Energy Transition in Asia-Pacific?; Securing Critical Minerals for Cleaner Energy; and Perspectives on Renewables and Storage Development, among others.
Ricardo Silva, 2023-2024 AIEN President, says, “We are extremely excited to be heading to Bangkok after our planned summit there in 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic. Asia-Pacific has been a very large part of AIEN membership and will continue to be a high growth area. In fact, it is forecast to have the largest growth for LNG demand over the coming decades and will therefore continue to be hugely important to both the AIEN and the wider energy world.”
