Emirates Biotech to highlight biopolymer growth opportunities in the Middle East at the European Bioplastics Conference

Report this content

Dubai, UAE – 21 October 2024 – Emirates Biotech, a leading innovator in the biopolymers industry, will participate at the European Bioplastics Conference 2024, to be held in Berlin. Marc Verbruggen, CEO of Emirates Biotech and a renowned leader in sustainable plastic solutions, will deliver an insightful presentation titled Policies & Regional Market Trends Driving Biopolymers Growth in the Middle East and India”.

The European Bioplastics Conference is the foremost platform within the global bioplastics sector. With over 400 senior decision-makers, policymakers, researchers, and brand owners attending, the event will focus on innovations in bio-based and biodegradable plastics, alongside discussions on the current political landscape and opportunities for growth in the circular economy.

Shaping the Future of Sustainable Plastics

Verbruggen’s presentation will focus on the growing need for policies and infrastructure to support the bioplastics industry, including plastic and organic waste collection. The Middle East, like many regions, faces challenges with plastic consumption, exacerbated by rapid population growth, increasing consumer demand and a booming tourism industry. The rising use of conventional plastics is linked to environmental concerns such as litter and reliance on fossil resources. However, biopolymers offer a sustainable alternative, with the potential to reduce carbon footprint, limit plastic waste, curb microplastic pollution, and even enhance soil quality.

As the UAE emerges as a global driver of sustainable initiatives, especially following the recent hosting of COP28, Emirates Biotech is at the forefront of the transition to a fossil-free society.

“We are at a pivotal moment in the global effort to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions,” said Verbruggen. “The European Bioplastics Conference is an essential platform for driving the conversation around sustainable plastics and for showcasing the real-world impact of biopolymers, especially in regions like the Middle East. We are excited to share how Emirates Biotech is addressing these challenges and contributing to a greener future.”

About PLA biopolymers

PLA (PolyLacticAcid) biopolymers are derived from plants that absorb CO2 from our atmosphere, making them a sustainable and biobased alternative to traditional plastics. PLA biopolymers are used in a wide range of applications, such as consumer goods, appliances, packaging, food service ware, and 3D printing. They can be recycled like any other polymer or broken down naturally, helping to cut down on plastic pollution. Material innovation is driving the adoption of PLA in an expanding array of applications, meeting increasingly rigorous requirements. By replacing conventional plastics with PLA biopolymers, we can significantly lower our environmental impact and foster a greener economy.
