The Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN) announces its next International Energy Summit (IES), to be held from May 30 to June 1 in Miami, Florida. The event will reflect the diverse needs of its membership and the wider energy community within a period of energy transition.

Ricardo Silva, 2023-2024 AIEN President, says, “Over the past 12 months we have consolidated what we intended by widening the scope of the organization, moving from a pure focus on the oil & gas industry to meet the wider needs of our membership as they work towards energy transition. The summit in Miami will tackle the issues surrounding both traditional and new energies, along with the need for energy security.”

John Bridges, AIEN Executive Director, explains, “Oil & gas will continue to be part of the energy mix for years to come, but we need to address the challenges of decarbonization. Our members have been dealing with CO2 for decades; capturing the gas for well injection and reservoir floods. They are well placed to develop the solutions and infrastructure we need for the future. The IES provides a forum for them to discuss and exchange knowledge and a platform that will help move the energy transition forward.”

As always, the IES will have a wide range of speakers and panellists from different regions throughout the world and varied areas of expertise. In Miami, these will include:

  • Felipe Bayón, Energy Expert and Former CEO, EcoPetrol
  • Mark Nelson, Vice Chairman & Executive Vice President, Strategy, Policy & Development, Chevron Corporation
  • The Hon. Stuart Young, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Trinidad and Tobago
  • Dr. Scott W. Tinker, Director, Bureau of Economic Geology, The University of Texas at Austin
  • The Hon. Flavia Royón, Secretary of Energy, Argentina
  • The Hon. Fernando Santos, Minister of Energy and Mines, Ecuador

Members will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss key topics, including: The balance of energy security, economic security, and climate security; Globalization vs. localization; The importance and challenges surrounding critical minerals in the energy transitions; Infrastructure, development and electrification challenges for power systems, and financing the energy transition, among others.

“The AIEN pulls people together with in-depth knowledge and works to deliver the materials and education needed to move the energy industry forward. As younger generations join our membership, they are surprised at how openly more experienced colleagues share information at the IES – but this is fundamental to what our organization provides and an invaluable opportunity for us all to learn and progress. Energy transition is a global challenge, and it is together that we will find the solutions we need as we work to take care of our planet for future generations,” concludes Silva.
