The Need for Pragmatism

Just three weeks remaining before the International Energy Summit in Miami begins! Keynote speaker events are highly anticipated, and we are excited for our members to hear from this year’s line-up, including the Fireside Chat with Mark Nelson, Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President, Strategy, Policy & Development, Chevron Corporation. The session is called “The Need for Pragmatism,” and features a candid discussion on the need for solutions that balance energy security, prosperity, and environment protection.

Many first world and developing economies faced energy shortages over the last 18 months. These events provide a stark reminder for the need for a pragmatic approach to the energy transition. Affordable energy is vital for economies to flourish, reliable energy is essential for national security, and we all have a stake in a lower carbon future.

How we achieve these objectives with speed and at scale without incurring major socio-economic disruptions is the challenge of the energy transition. The global energy system is enormous and will require the deft integration of government, industry and other stakeholders to achieve a successful transition to a lower carbon energy system while in the meantime keeping the lights on for the developed world and turning the lights on for developing economies.

This session promises to be one of the program highlights and we hope our members find it informative and thought-provoking.
