Ukrainian Culture Center in Stockholm presents "The Womanly Face of War" art exhibition
The Ukrainian Culture Center in Stockholm (UCCS) is proud to present the exhibition "The Womanly Face of War", featuring poster art by Ukrainian female artists and the Sunseed Art project. The exhibition will run from April 5th to April 27th at the center of Stockholm.
Through their artwork, the Ukrainian female artists attempt to explore the womanly face of war, and challenge the notion that war is solely a man's concern. The visitors will see many different female faces during the war, from vulnerable women to brave warriors, from homeless persons to mothers taking their children to safety in foreign countries and much more. The artwork showcases the pain, determination, bravery, and utopian hope for justice and peace that women experience during war.
All artists featured in the exhibition live and work in Ukraine, and their artwork is a reflection of their own stories and those of others who face the war in Ukraine. The posters were created in the early days of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022.
UCCS and SunSeed project chose the powerful voice of art as an international language to talk about women's experiences during war. They hope to leave visitors wondering whether the exhibition is about a woman or being human, Ukraine-specific or universal, and raising important questions for everyone around the globe.
Olesya Drashkaba, curator of The Womanly Face of War and co-founder of Sunseed Art: “I am in love with Ukrainian art. Beauty and freedom are two components that we want to share and inspire people with. We choose the powerful voice of art, this international language, to talk about women’s pain, determination, bravery and utopian hope for justice and peace.”
The opening of the exhibition will take place at 3 pm on April 5th at the Ukrainian Culture Center in Stockholm (temporary gallery in Sergelgången next to Kulturhuset). We are honored to welcome our guests and speakers, including representatives of the cultural community in Sweden. We invite all art lovers and those interested in the important questions of war, women's experiences and the power of art to join us for this event.

Ukrainian Culture Center in Stockholm is a project of non-profit organization Beredskapslyftet financed by Stockholms Stad. Its aim is to promote Ukrainian culture despite the ongoing war, by allowing Swedes and Ukrainians to experience Ukrainian films, music, theater, literature, photography, and other arts together. It is based in central Stockholm and the activities are run in collaboration with other cultural institutions such as Stadsteatern, Operan, Dramaten, Kulturhuset, Nordiska Museet and many more. This is to enable more meeting places for Ukrainians to practice their culture and to share it with people in Sweden.
