Places the knowledge and experience of Bestoutcome’s specialists at the user’s fingertips

London, 22 October 2012 – Bestoutcome, the specialist consultancy in complex change management for large organisations, today announced the launch of Project Risk Gauge, an innovative app for use with Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Available via the iTunes App Store and priced at £2.99, Project Risk Gauge enables users to perform an on-the-fly assessment of a project and assess its inherent risk of project delivery failure and failure to achieve the expected business benefits post-delivery. Crucially, Project Risk Gauge generates a set of recommended mitigation actions based on the information provided by the user and which draw on Bestoutcome’s decades of experience in project, programme and portfolio management.

Project Risk Gauge takes the user through four sets of questions relating to the key project risk areas of initiation, planning, governance and outcomes. For each question, users can choose from four possible answers, ranging from ‘not relevant’ to ‘serious issue’. As the user progresses through the questions, the app calculates a weighted risk score for each area, as well an overall risk rating for the project. Risk ratings are depicted in graphical form and range from green (minimal), through amber to red (maximum). Most importantly, Project Risk Gauge delivers a comprehensive set of risk mitigation actions based on the user’s input and designed to help users reduce risk and realise successful outcomes.

“Our consultants have undertaken many project reviews or health checks on behalf of our clients with the aim of helping project managers, sponsors and teams establish a set of actions designed to ensure the successful delivery of desired project outcomes,” says Iain Aitken, Systems Architect, Bestoutcome. “We have distilled this vast experience into an Apple app that although relatively simple from a functional perspective, literally places the power and knowledge of Bestoutcome’s specialists at the user’s fingertips. The risk mitigation actions generated by the Gauge are based on the wealth of real-world experience gained by Bestoutcome’s specialists when helping to deliver some of the most demanding change projects undertaken by blue-chip companies in recent times.”

The Project Risk Gauge app is able to hold multiple projects, while users can revise their project’s risk rating at any time during the project lifecycle. Recommended mitigation actions generated by the Gauge can also be printed or emailed in the form of a report to colleagues, sponsors and stakeholders. Project Risk Gauge follows the latest release of Bestoutcome’s PM3 project and portfolio management (PPM) solution. PM3 Release 6.1 introduces new resource and capacity planning functionality, as well as several enhancements for increased performance and usability.
