Report this content

7 April 2025—Ontario's iGaming sees the highest number of active player accounts despite a slight decrease in the revenue.

A recent report by Casino Rewards Hub highlights the contrasting performance of the Ontario iGaming market in February 2025 compared to January 2025, based on data from iGaming Ontario (iGO). The analysis examines month-over-month changes across key metrics, demonstrating a nuanced picture of the market dynamics.

Key Month-over-Month Comparison (January 2025 vs February 2025)

Metric 2025-01 2025-02 Change
Cash Wagers $7,836,000 $7,125,000 -$711,000
NAGGR $327,900 $280,100 -$47,800
Active Player Accounts #1,105 #1,129 +#24
ARPPA ($) $297 $248 -$49

iGaming Ontario's market report defines the metrics used in this analysis as follows:

  • Cash wagers do not include promotional wagers (bonuses).
  • Non-Adjusted Gross Gaming Revenue (NAGGR) represents total cash wagers, including rake fees, tournament fees, and other fees, across all Operators, minus player winnings derived from cash wagers and does not take into account operating costs or other liabilities.
  • Active Player Accounts are accounts with cash and/or promotional wagering activities during the reporting month and do not represent unique players as individuals may have accounts with multiple Operators.
  • Average Revenue Per Active Player Account (ARPPA) is calculated as total NAGGR divided by number of active player accounts for the same reporting month.

Cash Wagers

February saw a decline in total Cash Wagers, dropping by $711,000 (-9.07%), from $7,836,000 in January to $7,125,000. This reflects a significant contraction in total player betting activity.

Non-Adjusted Gross Gaming Revenue (NAGGR)

NAGGR also experienced a notable decrease, falling by $47,800 (-14.58%) from $327,900 in January to $280,100 in February. This metric, which tracks operator revenue before adjustments, highlights reduced short-term earnings for iGaming operators.

Active Player Accounts

In contrast to declining wagers and revenue, the number of Active Player Accounts increased by 24 (+2.17%), rising from 1,105 accounts in January to 1,129 in February. This positive trend underscores sustained consumer interest in Ontario’s online gambling offerings. This is the highest number of player accounts since the market inception.

Average Revenue Per Active Player Account (ARPPA)

Reflecting the combined impact of reduced revenue and higher player engagement, ARPPA decreased by $49 (-16.39%), down from $297 in January to $248 in February.

Market Insights

Although February 2025 exhibited declines in total Cash Wagers, NAGGR, and ARPPA compared to January, the uptick in Active Player Accounts suggests that consumer engagement with Ontario’s iGaming market remains strong. Moreover, despite these month-over-month changes, Ontario’s iGaming market has demonstrated substantial growth when looking at the year-over-year performance.

February 2025’s NAGGR of $280,100 represents the third-highest revenue figure recorded since inception. Such performance showcases the market’s resilience and long-term potential driven by sustained consumer interest and regulated growth.
