BEWiSynbra Group, one of the leading integrated producers of expandable polystyrene (EPS) in Europe, announces that it has established a new recycling company in Portugal, expanding and strengthening the company’s activities for collection – and recycling of EPS.

BEWiSynbra has launched an ambitious target of recycling 60,000 tonnes of EPS annually and since the launch of BEWiSynbra Circular in October 2018, the group has acquired two recycling companies and introduced several recycling initiatives.

“We already have two production facilities in Portugal, mainly producing fish boxes, and are already into recycling, so this is indeed a natural step in an important and prioritised market,” says Jonas Siljeskär, deputy CEO of BEWiSynbra.

The recycling facility will be located close to one of BEWiSynbra’s existing production facilities, and raw material will be supplied mainly from the Portuguese fish farming industry. BEWiSynbra expects to ramp up the volumes over the next 2 to 4 years.

The company will be headed by Pedro M. Luis, who has a vast knowledge of – and long experience from the recycling market in southern Europe.

“I am so excited to be part of this innovative company and to be able to lead the change towards a closed loop for EPS products,” says Pedro M. Luis, Managing Director of BEWiSynbra Circular in Portugal. “We will collect fish boxes and all other sorts of used EPS, recycle it and use it again and again, contributing to making our industry circular and to produce carbon neutral products for our customers. We have a sustainable solution for used EPS and I am convinced that we will really make a difference,” says Luis.
