Biacore Appoints New Senior Vice President of Business & Technology Development

Uppsala, Sweden, May 11, 2005. Biacore International AB (SSE: BCOR) announces today that it has appointed Dr Bjorn Olof Nilsson to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Business and Technology Development. Dr Nilsson will join Biacore’s Executive Management Team and will take up his position on June 1, 2005. Biacore has appointed Dr Nilsson (born 1956) to this new position to assist it in driving forward both the Company’s near-term and medium-term growth, based on its leading global position in the field of protein interaction analysis. In his new job Dr Nilsson has been tasked with: • Assisting in strengthening Biacore’s customer relations, with particular reference to leading academic centers globally and important pharmaceutical and biotech companies. • Optimizing the Company’s long-term product development activities by ensuring that Biacore’s future products clearly meet the emerging needs of its key academic and industrial customers.. • Assessing business and new technology opportunities for long-term profitable growth. Dr Nilsson has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry in both commercial and scientific roles and is respected and well connected within the life science industry both in Sweden and globally. Dr Nilsson chairs the Swedish biotechnology organization SwedenBIO. Prior to joining Biacore Dr Nilsson was President and CEO of Karo Bio AB from July 2001. Before assuming his position at Karo Bio, Dr Nilsson was Global Vice President Protein Area R&D and Vice President of R&D Sweden for Amersham Pharmacia Biotech and prior to this he was Director of Biology Research for Pharmacia & Upjohn AB from October 1996 to December 1997. Dr Nilsson also worked at Pharmacia Biopharmaceuticals from 1992 to 1996 where he was Head of Structural Biochemistry.
