Bibby Distribution has appointed Andrew Mawson as its new Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ).

Mawson, 51, who has more than 25 years’ experience within the distribution and logistics sectors, joins the 3PL after nearly eight years as Group SHE Manager for PX Ltd.

Mawson’s remit within Bibby Distribution will be to build on the 3PL’s already-impressive track record in SHEQ initiatives. In particular, he will be introducing new training and coaching programmes, aimed at delivering a proactive safety culture where all staff take responsibility for anticipating and preventing accidents.  Mawson will also champion The Road to Zero – the logistics company’s strategic programme, introduced in 2015, which aims for zero harm, zero emissions and zero waste. He will also oversee the company’s exemplary environmental practices, which have been recognised for outstanding achievement in cutting carbon emissions by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) after picking up the FTA’s 2016 Leadership in Low Carbon Award.

Mawson joined BRS Truck Rental following the completion of his BTEC in Business Studies, Logistics, Materials and Supply Chain Management in 1985, before moving to Pickfords Removals, where he began his career in earnest with the implementation of BS5750 (now ISO 9000) into the organisation.

This led to a move to TDG Linkman where his passion for safety, health and quality came to the fore. Mawson quickly climbed the ranks to become Group SHEQ Manager for the European chemicals company, championing SHEQ improvement across the UK and Europe.

Duncan Eyre, Commercial Director, Bibby Distribution, says: “Andrew brings a wealth of experience gained at the coalface of our sector. His passion for SHEQ is contagious and will inspire all staff as they innovate, improve and do the right thing.”

Mawson was particularly attracted to the ingrained behavioural safety culture already in place within the organisation.

He says: “I’m excited about this opportunity to consolidate Bibby Distribution’s position as an industry leader in safety and environmental performance. Together with the senior management team, we can drive the most important part of our business – our people – to create a SHEQ culture that can serve as a benchmark for the sector.”
