Bibby Distribution has renewed its contract with Saint-Gobain Isover to provide distribution for the sustainable building and technical insulation manufacturer.

The two-year deal extends a partnership that has run since October 2010 and will see Bibby Distribution introduce a number of new measures to further increase safety, sustainability and efficiency.

These measures include the deployment of a dedicated Kalmar distribution tractor on site that presents trailers for loading at Isover’s warehouse facility in Runcorn. The unit replaces an older tractor unit and will be easier and more cost-effective to maintain.

The Kalmar’s cabin provides full 360 degree visibility and eliminates the need for the driver to continually enter and exit the vehicle when changing trailers, a significant benefit as the unit is expected to perform up to 40 trailer movements a day. A large rear deck makes connecting and disconnecting cables and hoses much easier, as well as facilitating safe movements even in poor and wet conditions.

In addition to the new distribution tractor, eight tractor units used on the contract are to be replaced with brand new Euro VI MAN TGX 26.440 units, which deliver improved fuel economy and cleaner emissions. The units are also equipped with full telematics tracking, allowing Bibby Distribution to monitor driver performance and develop tailored training to maximise efficiency.

David Lydon, Supply Chain Manager, Saint-Gobain Isover, says: “We’ve worked with Bibby Distribution for many years and we’ve found them to be flexible and able to respond to our needs quickly and efficiently. The contract has been renewed because Bibby Distribution continues to deliver a value for money service, while being highly proactive on health and safety, and committing to deliver ongoing improvement.”

With the new distribution tractor in place, Bibby Distribution is now looking at further ways to add value to Isover’s operations. Costs are now already more predictable because the Kalmar is rented, and the team is working to develop new site specific safety guidelines for the main facility in Runcorn and the satellite outpost in Biggleswade, as well as looking at introducing weekend and night-time deliveries.

SGI manufactures sustainable building and technical insulation for the construction industry. Bibby Distribution provides transportation of products such as APR and Spacesaver to trade retailers such as Jewson, SIG and CCF.
