Bibby Distribution has been declared a world leader in sustainable logistics at the Global Freight Awards, receiving the distinction of Highly Commended in the awards’ environmental category.

The only entirely UK-based 3PL to pick up an accolade at the international awards, Bibby Distribution was singled out for its extensive initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.

The company flew the flag for Britain in its sector, impressing the judges ahead of billion-dollar international shipping concerns and multimodal operators, with its broad spectrum of initiatives ranging from using the latest in tanker technology to virtual warehousing to minimise its impact on the environment.

Managing Director Duncan Eyre says: “The Global Freight Awards brings together the world’s best logistics companies from every corner of the globe. Our commendation from the judges proves that our commitment to carbon reduction is truly world class. We hope to inspire others in our industry to follow suit as we continue to deliver supply chains with the lowest possible carbon footprint to our customers.”

Bibby Distribution’s entry highlights a variety of steps it has taken to improve its environmental efficiency. Dual-fuel vehicles have been introduced on high-mileage contracts, cutting individual emissions by 10 per cent, while the 3PL’s active participation in the ongoing longer semi-trailer trial has seen Bibby Distribution conduct 8,400 fewer journeys without compromising on volume.

Additionally, the introduction of a new type of tanker has cut fuel usage by 53 per cent during the process of collecting milk from farms, and all drivers across Bibby Distribution are now benefiting from individually tailored training, that uses the 3PL’s full fleet telematics to identify and eliminate inefficient driving practices.

Bibby Distribution’s environmental efforts also saw it shortlisted for the National Air Quality Awards in November.

The Global Freight Awards are operated by Lloyd’s Loading List, one of the world’s largest business information services for the freight industry.
