Bibby Distribution has renewed its multi-million pound contract with Lancashire-based conservatory roofing manufacturer Ultraframe until 2018.

The new deal builds on a seven-year partnership and means Bibby will continue to play a key role in the customer’s supply chain, managing all aspects of transport planning and distribution.

Bibby makes between 70 and 80 deliveries per day for Ultraframe, including pre-fabricated roofs to installers and roof components to manufacturers and fabricators, with approximately 95 per cent of deliveries completed on a next-day basis. This involves handling non-standard freight which can range from 6m long stillages and 7m length beams weighing up to 120kg, to sheets of polycarbonate glazing. Bibby also manages the export of products into Europe.

Paul Greaves, Logistics Manager at Ultraframe, says: “Through Bibby’s specialist service we have benefited from sharing assets and resources with other Bibby customers which need to move non-palletised goods nationwide. This has enabled us to focus on what we do best – building and designing roofs.”

Bibby Distribution’s scale and expertise means it can offer a national shared-user distribution service for non-standard, non-palletised products. This allows customers to get the cost and environmental benefits of an efficient shared-user network, combined with product-specific knowledge to ensure goods are handled with the additional care they require. Further efficiencies are made possible through Bibby collecting 80 per cent of Ultraframe’s raw materials from suppliers, thereby minimising empty running. Together, this enables Bibby to deliver annual savings for Ultraframe of up to £500,000.

Andy Kellar, Divisional Business Development Director at Bibby Distribution, says: “From a supply chain perspective we ensure Ultraframe receives a premium service at the same time as optimising cost savings by utilising synergies from within the wider Bibby network. We’ve also been flexible in realigning the service to meet the customer’s changing business volumes.”

Greaves adds: “Every single roof we make is bespoke and comes in a different shape or size, and must be handled with the utmost care. As our sole 3PL provider, we rely on Bibby to help us deliver in all aspects of our distribution process.”

Ultraframe specialises in conservatories, glazed extensions and orangeries, having installed more than one million conservatory roofs across the UK since its inception 25 years ago.
