Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior, a division of Plastic Omnium Ltd, has extended its contract with Bibby Distribution for a further three years following what it describes as a ‘professional and supportive’ approach to end-of-line logistics from the firm.

The original contract – which includes the transport and warehousing of plastic automotive components – will now grow to include additional transport activities at Plastic Omnium’s new facility in Edison Road, Hams Hall, Warwickshire.

“Our transport and warehousing requirements are dictated by a high throughput of goods and fluctuating demand,” said Ian Tate, Sils & Supply Chain Manager of Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior. “What we need is a supplier who can be adaptable to this, and work with us to continually improve our processes with information-driven strategies.

“Since its acquisition of TM Logistics in 2010 – with whom we held the initial contract – Bibby Distribution has proven that it has a professional and supportive approach to our requirements and is capable of reacting quickly to upturns in volume. This confidence in the team has led to the award of additional business,” added Tate.

The contract comprises transport between Plastic Omnium’s two manufacturing plants in Measham, Derbyshire, and Hams Hall, in addition to finished product delivery into various car manufacturers throughout the West Midlands and Cheshire.

Warehousing is managed onsite by Bibby Distribution at Plastic Omnium’s facility in Faraday Road, Hams Hall.

“The team at Bibby places real importance on working together and presenting tangible evidence – by way of comprehensive KPI data – to demonstrate the impact it has on our operations,” explained Tate.

“Working to tight deadlines is essential when dealing with end-of-line logistics and this is certainly an area where Bibby excels. The cost implications of even a slight delay are significant, so it is imperative to be able to place trust in the chosen supplier.”

Bibby Distribution runs a fleet of fifteen dedicated vehicles on behalf of Plastic Omnium and plans to incorporate a number of extended length semi-trailers into the contract to realise a 20 per cent increase in volume capacity over the coming months.
