THE RIGHT MIX: A SEAMLESS TRANSFER FOR BIBBY DISTRIBUTION AND FAYREFIELD FOODTEC

Impressive BRC accredited* facilities, integrated IT systems and customer care, led specialist blender of dry food ingredients Fayrefield FoodTec – a wholly owned subsidiary of Dairy Crest – to award Bibby Distribution its nationwide warehousing and transport operations. The company is now reporting a seamless transition to its new logistics partner.
The contract sees Bibby Distribution managing a full logistics programme on behalf of Fayrefield FoodTec, including receipt and storage of raw ingredients from suppliers at its facility in MeirPark, to the sampling of products and final delivery of ready-mixed products out to large food manufacturers throughout the UK.
“The handling of food products is challenging right through from production to point of delivery,” said Dave Smith, Operations Manager at Fayrefield FoodTec. “This means that selecting a trusted partner which mirrors our own high levels of delicate handling was critical to the continued success and professionalism of our service offering.
“Bibby ticked all the boxes from a first-rate food-graded warehouse right through to robust IT systems which offer the meticulous traceability of products. Making the move to a new supplier was a big step, but the team at Bibby gave us the confidence to know that we, and our customers, would be fully supported,” he added.
By using Bibby Distribution’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), FoodTec has access to full data on stock levels and movements via a web portal, allowing a comprehensive real-time overview of all goods.
Palletised deliveries made to FoodTec’s mixing plant in Crewe, Cheshire – as well as larger consignments to local customers – are now fully integrated into Bibby’s network fleet operating out of Meir Park. Bibby’s strategically located out-bases are also used to manage the transport of goods to customers further afield.
“The important thing to remember with every single customer is that it is their livelihood that they entrust into our hands,” said Kevin Brennan, Divisional Operations Manager, Bibby Distribution. “With food products in particular, the risk of contamination, coupled with the value of the actual product mean that planning and careful handling are imperative. This is something we work hard at within Bibby and we are delighted that FoodTec has given us the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise.”
