Biokraft is planning a biogas production plant in Perstorp, and the Perstorp municipality has approved a land allocation agreement on municipal, industrial land. The environmental permit process can now begin.

Biokraft intends to expand its current production capacity of 440 GWh to at least 3 TWh by 2030. The growth will be incremental; by 2026, we aim to have 1.2 TWh of production capacity. The increase in capacity will primarily result from building several new large-scale production facilities in northern Europe. The land allocation agreement in Perstorp is a significant milestone. Biokraft can now continue the project and start an environmental permit process estimated to take 9 to 12 months.

Biokraft has identified Perstorp, located in northern Skåne, as a suitable site for a large-scale liquid biogas plant. It is close to Northern Europe, has excellent road connections and is in a landscape with plenty supplies of manure and organic waste from surrounding agriculture.

The plant is planned to be the same type Biokraft is building in Mönsterås and is also planned in Kalmar and Skånes Fagerhult, where environmental permit processes are already underway. The facilities will, like in Mönsterås, be based on manure as raw material and be built in collaboration with local farmers who are also offered shares.

The planned facility, which will create approximately 15 new jobs, will have a production capacity of 130 GWh annually. This corresponds to 400 heavy trucks' annual diesel consumption.

– Demand for liquid biogas is booming in Sweden and the continent. Production in Sweden is needed to satisfy the domestic market and utilize synergies with our other facilities in Sweden. We are grateful that the municipality of Perstorp is positive about us establishing ourselves there, says Matti Vikkula, CEO and CEO of Biokraft.

The plant in Perstorp is expected to start production approximately 18 months after environmental approval, given that funding is obtained and other administrative requirements are met.
