Attension Theta Flex from Biolin Scientific receives Red Dot: Best of the Best for ground-breaking design quality
The Red Dot Jury has made its decision. Attension Theta Flex wins a Red Dot: Best of the Best, for its ground-breaking design at the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2020. This means that Biolin Scientific is one of the winners in the world’s most renowned design competition.
An instrument encouraging exploration in surface science
The premium optical tensiometer Attension Theta Flex was launched early 2019 and soon became a favorite across research facilities worldwide. The versatility of the instrument provides plenty of measurement possibilities and the user-friendly software coupled with an intuitive design are keys to the success.
“Working with scientific products, we aimed to create a design reflecting accuracy. However, we wished to avoid appearing technical just for the sake of it. The design intended to support human/machine interplay, encouraging users to explore and engage with the instrument.” says Jyrki Korpela, Product Manager at Biolin Scientific.

Detailed evaluation of the products entered
The Red Dot Award: Product Design offers designers and manufacturers from all over the world a platform for assessing their products. In 2020, designers and companies from 60 countries entered more than 6,500 products in the competition. The international jury comprises experienced experts from different disciplines and has been convening for around 65 years in order to select the year’s best designs. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, only the best designs receive an award.
Attension Theta Flex in exhibitions, online and in the yearbook
On 22 June 2020, Attension Theta Flex will be added to the exhibition Milestones in Contemporary Design in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, where all of the award-winning products will be on show. The museum will be a hotspot for best-in-class industrial design. From that date, the winning product from Biolin Scientific will also be presented in the online exhibition on the Red Dot website. The Red Dot Design Yearbook 2020/2021 comes out in July 2020.
