Increasingly scientific support for Bioservo's grip-strengthening glove
Yet another study has been published that shows the positive effects of using Bioservo's technology to strengthen the grip of the hand. The latest study investigated the usefulness and effects of an assisted robotic glove in the home environment for people with MS or who got a stroke. This is the latest in a series of studies published this past year.
In this study *1, conducted in a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Danderyd's hospital, the effects of a variety of activities of daily living were investigated. The most positive effects were that people could hold onto things for a long time with a firm grip. One person with MS describes it like this: “The advantage has been that I have been able to use my left hand to lift things up and grab things. First grab and then lift… I couldn't do that before”. Another person said "The positive is that the glove helps with the grip and the negative is that I should have had it earlier before my ability disappeared."
The previously published article in the scientific journal "Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation" *2 shows that home rehabilitation with Bioservo Technologies grip-strengthening glove leads to improved hand function for people with spinal cord injury. The conclusion from the study is that rehabilitation with the robotic glove is effective in improving and maintaining gross and fine motor function for people with spinal cord injury. In a previously published article in the scientific journal PLoS ONE *3, research results show that support for the soft grip-strengthening robotic glove, either as an aid or as a training tool, can be a promising way to counter the deterioration of hand function associated with aging.
We are still waiting for the results of the most comprehensive study that has not yet been completed. It examines the rehabilitative effect of using Bioservo's grip-strengthening glove.
Puzzle pieces are added one by one and build up an increasingly powerful picture that Bioservo's grip-strengthening glove not only helps people with impaired hands to cope with daily activities, but can also be used for rehabilitative purposes to regain lost hand function and counteract the deterioration of hand function associated with aging.
