Leading Mobile Operator Chooses Birdstep’s New Application To Reduce Roaming Costs

Oslo September 24 2013.  Birdstep has entered into a contractual agreement with a leading Mobile Operator for its new client software-based solution to significantly reduce Roaming Data Traffic costs for the Operator

Most Mobile Operators are faced with considerable cost and challenges in terms of how to handle roaming data traffic, especially if and when the roaming is national, where most Operators cannot add any surcharge.

The company expects to deploy this new application as part of an overall solution for intelligent data off-load. In addition to being fully integrated into Birdstep’s Policy-on-the-Device and Offload solutions, the application can also be deployed as a standalone solution.  The Mobile Data Roaming module works closely with Birdstep’s On-Device Policy Management platform and is based upon a number of on-device policy triggers, as well as the ability to proactively route data traffic to WiFi.

This will not only significantly reduce network operators and MVNOs data roaming costs when the roaming is national but also reduce churn and enhance customer satisfaction when it’s international as shock-bills, throttling and constant roaming blocks are avoided.

This first phase is considered strategically important as a successful outcome is expected to lead to deployment across a broader commercial scale.
