Birka Energi acquires energy trading company in Ljusdal Ljusdal Energi and Birka Energi AB have today reached an agreement for the sale of 50% of the shares in Ljusdal Energi Försäljning AB ("LEFAB") to Birka Energi. Birka Energi will pay SEK 4,633,000 for its share of the company. The new sales company will initially have around 7,200 customers and a total volume of approximately 97 GWh. It was easy to choose Birka Energi as a partner for Ljusdal Energi, says Åke Henriksson, chairman of the Ljusdal Energi Board of Directors. Birka Energi is one of Sweden's leading energy companies with a strong environmental profile and experience of the whole energy industry. The deregulated electricity market means that trading in electricity now involves risks so great that Ljusdal Energi's owner, Ljusdal local authority, simply has to share these risks with a larger partner. At the same time, the ever-shrinking margins in the electricity market mean that the price of electricity trading companies is falling. Together with Birka, Ljusdal Energi will co-operate in electricity trading activities. Birka Energi is one of Scandinavia's largest energy companies with approx. 840,000 customers, sales of 27 TWh, heating sales of 8 TWh and a turnover of approx. SEK 13 billion. The city of Stockholm and Fortum Abp each own 50% of Birka Energi.
