Unforgettable Christmas gifts from Birmingham Museums

Report this content

There’s no excuse for anyone to give or receive a boring Christmas present this year in Birmingham, as Birmingham Museums reveal a host of gift experiences and ideas to make the contents of your stockings bejewelled, freshly baked or even terrifying!

  1. 1.       Bake it!  For anyone who likes to know exactly what is going into their food, this experience day at Sarehole Mill gives foodies the opportunity to bake their own flatbread or pizza with flour milled on site.  The visit includes a tour of the mill, with classes available in February, March and April, priced at £25 per person.  A gift ticket is provided to slip inside a Christmas Card.
  2. 2.       Just eat it!  If you don’t want to be hands-on with your food, then Afternoon Tea for Two in the Edwardian Tearooms at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is the ultimate indulgent treat.  With sandwiches freshly-made on farmhouse bread, mouth-watering cakes and tasty scones accompanied by a pot of tea or coffee, this is a fantastic treat in the heart of the city.
  3. 3.       Christmas cheer fear!  Perhaps not the best gift for great grandma, but one that is sure to appeal to the thrill-seekers in the house, Aston Hall is hosting immersive ghost tours on the evening of Saturday 23 January.  Priced at only £9 per person, this is a Christmas gift they will never forget...
  4. 4.       One Silver Ring – a ring on the finger worth more than five gold rings in a pear tree, when the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter hosts a jewellery-making masterclass. Participants will learn a variety of jewellery making techniques under the guidance of jeweller Grace Page, making and taking home their own silver ring.  The next course takes place on Saturday 5 March and costs £50 per person, including all materials!
  5. 5.       Night with her Train of Stars fairy – anyone who loves the stunning ER Hughes painting Night with her Train of Stars can now add a fairy inspired by the painting to their Christmas tree in this decoration specially-commissioned by Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.  The ‘Night’ fairy costs just £10.99 and is available exclusively from the museum’s fantastic gift shop.

“These are presents which will not only have the recipient smiling, but leave the purchaser with a warm glow on a cold December day, as every purchase helps us to keep all of our museums, attractions and historic buildings running, preserving Birmingham’s heritage for future generations,” comments Commercial Development Manager, Alex Nicholson-Evans.  “The gift shops at all of our sites are free to enter, and have some fantastic and unusual gift ideas that you won’t find on the high street, from toys that make learning fun at Thinktank to locally-sourced produce at our heritage sites.”
