BL!XT TECH AB Joins Horizon Europe’s ALL-DC-SHIPS Project to Pave the Way for Low-Emission Vessels
Stockholm, Sweden – March 24th 2025 – BL!XT TECH AB is proud to announce its participation in the groundbreaking ALL-DC-SHIPS project, a €10.2 million initiative funded by Horizon Europe. This pioneering project aims to revolutionize maritime transport by developing fully DC-based electrical systems for ships, significantly reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.
The project, coordinated by the University of Birmingham, brings together 11 industry-leading partners from eight European countries to design and implement next-generation power systems for waterborne transport. By transitioning to a full direct current (DC) architecture, ALL-DC-SHIPS will enhance system reliability, reduce energy losses, and accelerate the shift toward sustainable maritime solutions.
“At BL!XT, we are committed to driving innovation in electrification, and our involvement in this project aligns perfectly with our mission to enable a sustainable, fossil-free future,” said Jens Schoer, CTO at BL!XT TECH AB. “By integrating cutting-edge solid-state circuit breaker technology into maritime applications, we aim to improve efficiency, safety, and performance in shipboard power distribution.”
A Game-Changer for the Maritime Industry
The maritime sector is responsible for nearly 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with urgent action needed to meet the 2050 climate-neutral goals. The ALL-DC-SHIPS project is set to play a key role in this transition by:
- Reducing reliance on fossil fuels through electrification
- Enhancing energy efficiency with innovative power management
- Improving safety and reliability of ship electrical systems
BL!XT TECH AB will contribute its expertise in DC power technology to ensure the seamless integration of advanced converters and protection devices, helping to shape the future of zero-emission shipping.
Next Steps & Future Impact
With an ambitious timeline, the project aims to deliver a working prototype of a fully electrified vessel, demonstrating the viability and advantages of DC power in maritime transport. The insights and technologies developed will serve as a blueprint for widespread adoption, supporting the EU’s Green Deal objectives.
“We are excited to collaborate with leading industry and academic partners to redefine the future of maritime energy systems,” added Kasun Hewage, Developer at BL!XT. “This project represents a major leap forward in our shared vision for a cleaner, more efficient shipping industry.”
