Jotun and COSCO Dalian Ocean Shipping Company celebrate 10,000 SeaQuantum applications
Oslo-Norway, Shanghai-China, 4 September 2015: In July, Jotun and Dalian Ocean Shipping Company (a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company, Cosco Group), celebrated the 10,000th application of SeaQuantum, Jotun’s premium antifouling, to their 297,336-dwt tanker, Cosrich Lake.
According to Mr. Zhao Jinwen, Vice Managing Director COSCO DALIAN, SeaQuantum plays an important role in the company’s efforts to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. “We are very pleased to receive the 10,000th application of SeaQuantum,” he said. “COSCO DALIAN is committed to building the largest, specialised and most fuel-efficient fleet of bulk liquid carriers in China, and Jotun’s SeaQuantum technology helps us achieve our goal.”
Geir Bøe, Jotun’s Vice President Marine Coatings says the Cosrich Lake project represents a genuine milestone for Jotun. “Based on proven performance and trust from our network of global customers, SeaQuantum has strengthened its position year by year to become the industry’s leading antifouling brand,” he says. “We will continue to support the industry’s efforts to reduce fuel costs and corresponding emissions with our full range of SeaQuantum products, optimised for different trading conditions.”
Bøe’s colleague, Dr. Jian Wang Technical Director (Jotun Shanghai) notes that Cosrich Lake was coated with a full system of SeaQuantum Ultra S, which is specifically designed for vessels that are slow steaming or have low activity. “We are very proud of having applied SeaQuantum to the 10,000thvessel and we are delighted that COSCO Dalian was part of this memorable occasion,” he says.
As part of the ceremony, Jotun presented a ship model of Cosrich Lake to COSCO DALIAN to mark the occasion. “My congratulations to COSCO DALIAN on the delivery of their vessel, and to all our personnel for making SeaQuantum the market leader,” said Mr. Jerry Yang, Deputy General Manager of JCMC “It is a significant achievement, and we look forward to the next 10,000 vessels.”
About SeaQuantum
First launched in 2000, SeaQuantum is built on Jotun’s decades-long experience working with silyl acrylate technology. Unlike other ion exchange biocidal anti-foulings produced by competitors, silyl acrylates are hydrophobic (water repelling), not hydrophilic (water attracting). When exposed to sea water, silyls provide predictable self-polishing properties and a thin leached layer, which is vital to providing reliable, long-lasting protection. By contrast, other ion exchange technologies allow for reactions to take place throughout the coating, which leads to less predictable performance. In addition to its chemical advantages, SeaQuantum is based on more than 15,000 test formulations and is supported by a global organisation that ensures the careful control of raw materials and a network of highly skilled expert coating advisors.
