BlueLabs Announces Microcode Development Services for Motorola processor BlueLabs (a part of the Frontec Group) has signed an agreement with Motorola enabling it to offer microcode consultancy services for Motorola's MPC8260 PowerQUICC IITM Integrated Communication Processor. This will allow vendors to both enhance existing communications protocols and also generate custom solutions on the Motorola's MPC8260 PowerQUICC IITM. "This agreement further strengthens BlueLabs position in the Intelligent Communications marketplace in Scandinavia, Europe and beyond" said Bengt Jervmo, team leader in BlueLabs Embedded Systems Group in Stockholm. "Motorola welcomes the support from BlueLabs for the MPC8260," said Tim Summers, European Operations Manager at Motorola's Networking and Computing System Group. "One of our main objective is to help our customers to achieve a fast time-to-market for their products, and BlueLabs can help our customers save significant development time through the development of microcode on request." It integrates two main components, an embedded PowerPC core and a Communications Processor Module (CPM). The CPM is a dedicated RISC engine, optimised for handling communications tasks. It has its own instruction set, and it can be programmed via "microcode". Its operation is independent from the PowerPC core. The device already supports protocols such as ATM (ALL0, ALL1, ALL5, etc.), HDLC and Fast Ethernet using this microcode. By using BlueLabs services vendors can now both modify these microcode protocols to meet their specific requirements, or even introduce new microcode protocols without the need for a change to the original design. About Motorola As the world's No.1 producer of embedded processors, Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector offers multiple DigitalDNA(TM) technologies which enable its customers to create "smart'' products and new business opportunities in the networking and computing, wireless communications, transportation, and imaging and entertainment markets. Motorola's worldwide semiconductor sales were $7.4 billion in 1999. http://www.motorola.com/semiconductors/ About BlueLabs BlueLabs, a part of the Frontec Group, is a high-tech company, specialised in Intelligent Communication.
