Blue World Technologies in strategic collaboration with world-class university
As part of the research and development work on the Blue World Technologies fuel cell technology, the company has entered a strategic collaboration with Aalborg University, a top-ranking University in engineering that is highly recognised worldwide for its work within fuel cell technologies.
At Aalborg University, the Department of Energy Technology has for the past two decades, taken an active part in research and development of the fuel cell technology, and both students and researchers come to the department from all over the world. Therefore, the university holds an intensive knowledge as well as the facilities for testing and optimising the core fuel cell components and systems. With an aim to produce energy efficient methanol fuel cell systems at a competitive price within the next couple of years, Blue World Technologies is deeply focused on the core technology of the fuel cell system and has now entered a collaboration with Aalborg University to strengthen the company’s research and development work.
“As a university, it is of great importance to have a close collaboration with the companies in the fuel cell industry that are working on the manufacturing and commercialisation of the fuel cell technologies. Collaboration with Blue World Technologies gives us a unique insight to the technical challenges and research needs related to methanol fuel cell system design for the transportation sector and to the setup of large-scale manufacturing,” Søren Knudsen Kær, Professor at the Department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University, explains.
Long history
In Aalborg, all the fuel cell activities have roots going back to Aalborg University, and at Blue World Technologies, two of the founders, CEO Anders Korsgaard and CTO Mads Bang, were amongst the first PhD students working on fuel cell technologies at the university creating the foundation for the continued fuel cell activities at the university.
“When working with cutting-edge technologies at an ambitious pace, it is very important to continuously improve and optimise our product and with our collaboration with Aalborg University we are strengthening our R&D-work,” says Mads Bang, CTO at Blue World Technologies.
The Blue World Technologies team currently counts 29 people whereas five, including the two founders, are former PhD-students specialised within fuel cell technologies from the Department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University.
Zero harmful emission in the transport sector
91 % of the world’s population living in areas where the air quality exceeds WHO guidelines, and one of the larges sinners is the transportation sector. With a vision to retire the combustion engine, Blue World Technologies brings energy-efficient, cost-competitive methanol fuel cell systems to the market as a real green alternative. The Blue World Technologies’ fuel cell system is a range extender for a battery electric vehicle, providing a convenient driving experience with long range, fast refuelling with a liquid, non-pressurised fuel as well as zero harmful emission.

About Blue World Technologies
Blue World Technologies is an ambitious and visionary developer and manufacturer of HT-PEM fuel cell components and systems for stationary and APU applications and the automotive and heavy-duty transportation sectors around the world. The fuel cells act as a green alternative to combustion engines and diesel generators. As a part of the Power-to-X eco-system the methanol fuel cell technology contributes to solving parts of the green transition that cannot be solved by direct electrification and battery technology alone.
Blue World Technologies’ fuel cells run primarily on methanol – a renewable liquid fuel that simply and cost-effectively can be stored for years and transported around the world while reusing existing infrastructure.
Blue World Technologies is founded on extensive experience from the fuel cell industry and aims towards commercialising the technology through large-scale production. The company is focused on the High-Temperature PEM technology combined with methanol-reforming. The combination ensures a simple system design with high conversion efficiency and significant benefits including CO2 reduction, fuel cost savings, and zero harmful emissions.
