WAP services Mobile entertainment reaches substantially more users You can now WAP without a WAP-enabled mobile phone. BlueFactory, the Swedish supplier of mobile entertainment services has together with Sonera SmartTrust developed two entertainment services for WAP. Using new technology, these services will be available to almost all mobile phone users, more than doubling the number of potential users of WAP services. With a SIM browser in a normal mobile telephone, almost anyone can access WAP. The first entertainment services that can be used via the new technology are BlueFactory's trivia game, CelebriQuiz, and dating service, Flirtylizer. "People have been talking about WAP for a long time, but few have had access to it. With the help of this new technology and these two new entertainment services, we want to show that WAP works - for all mobile phone users," said Axel Niklasson, Customer Operations Manager at BlueFactory. In Sweden, only five percent of mobile phone owners currently have so- called WAP-enabled phones. Companies that develop services and homepages for WAP therefore can reach only a small section of the market. With a SIM browser in a normal mobile phone, almost everyone can have access to WAP. Via a reader, WAP language is converted to a text-based format that can be read even on mobile phones without a WAP function. The technology is built on the Wireless Internet Gateway (WIG) platform, developed by Sonera SmartTrust. Mobile communications providers with access to this platform include the Swedish firm, Sense, and the Italian firm, Blu. BlueFactory is one of the first companies in the world to be able to deliver an entertainment service based on WIG. For mobile communications providers, the new technology means they can reach a substantially larger target group with their WAP services. BlueFactory will demonstrate its trivia game during the GSM World Congress in Cannes, which will take place from 20 to 23 February at the Giesecke&Devrients display E8.
