Boliden and the Finnish harbour strike

Report this content

The Finnish harbour strike, now on its second week, will begin to have consequences for Boliden from the end of this week. The strike mainly influences deliveries of raw materials to Boliden’s two Finnish smelters – the zinc Smelter in Kokkola and the copper/nickel smelter in Harjavalta. Stocks of zinc and nickel concentrates are sufficient to continue production through next week. Lack of copper concentrates will, however, force Harjavalta to shut down its copper smelter on 18 March and the copper refinery on 19 March. Employees at Harjavalta will be temporarily laid-off beginning 25 March. The strike has so far only caused limited effects to Boliden’s customers.
