The Finnish Union of Salaried Employees (TU) has given notice of a strike for salaried employees at larger companies within the Finnish technology industry. The conflict concerns a new national two-year collective agreement and Boliden’s zinc smelter in Kokkola and the Harjavalta copper smelter are among the companies affected.

“Our assessment is that production at the two smelters will continue as normal. The personnel affected include supervisors, laboratory personnel and employees working with accounting and payroll administration. In the event of a strike, special arrangements will be made for the tasks normally carried out by salaried employees,” says Harri Natunen, acting President of Boliden’s Business Area Smelters.

The notice is of a strike starting 22nd October, 11 a.m. If the parties cannot arbitrate a solution before that time, 137 employees at Boliden Kokkola and 75 at Boliden Harjavalta, covered under the salaried employees’ collective agreement, will be affected.
