Bonava has topped the list of sustainable companies, a ranking conducted by Lund University School of Economics and Management for the publications Dagens Industri and Aktuell Hållbarhet. Bonava was ranked the highest among comparable companies in the consumer goods category.

– Our aim is to create happy neighbourhoods for the many and Bonava has viewed sustainability as an embedded part of its business right from the start. Even though we have made some progress, a lot of work remains to be done. This is particularly true of the climate transition, which requires a major and broad commitment from us and society at large, says Peter Wallin, President and CEO, Bonava.

Contributing to global sustainable development has been a focus for Bonava since the company was founded in 2016. The company has a broad sustainability agenda that includes social, ecological and financial aspects.

The company was also the first residential developer in Europe to develop climate targets in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative’s method and to receive approval for these. By 2030, Bonava will reduce the company’s direct carbon emissions – Scope 1 and 2 – with an absolute target of 50 per cent, and reduce carbon emissions throughout the value chain – Scope 3 – with an intensity target of 50 per cent per housing start, compared with the base year of 2018. This is in accordance with the IPCC’s recommendation to limit global warming to 1.5 °C.

This is the fourth year Dagens Industri and Aktuell Hållbarhet, together with Lund University School of Economics and Management, have scrutinised the sustainability efforts and reporting by Swedish listed companies. The categories in focus are SDG and sustainability strategy, climate and environment, sustainability risks, and scenario analysis, standards and certification, anti-corruption, personnel and other.
