August 27 – Minneapolis, MN – Themed cruises have always been a popular sell for cruise lines and a draw for passengers. Cruising with like-minded people, with a common interest tends to encourage commonality onboard and new friendships for the future.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has over 60 topics or themes throughout the upcoming cruise season. The Titanic Mini Cruise was designed to sail prior to the Titanic Memorial Cruise in April 2012, organized by Miles Morgan Travel. The mini cruise departs Southampton April 3, 2012, visiting Liverpool, England and Belfast, Ireland before returning on April 8. Cruise highlights include a visit to the Harland and Wolff shipyard, in Belfast, where the RMS Titanic was built between 1909 and 1911, and an optional shore excursion to visit Thomas Andrew’s home, the Titanic’s designer. The mini cruise is on sale with prices starting at $741 per person, based on double occupancy for an inside cabin; passengers also receive $75 onboard spending per cabin.

Another interesting theme takes place on a Canary Islands cruise, “History of the British Royal Family.” Enjoy listening to free lecturers and historians as they discuss the British royal family in detail from past to present. Cruise departs Southampton December 8, 2011 and returns December 21. This cruise is on sale with prices starting at $1,550 per person based on double occupancy with a $200 onboard spending credit per cabin.

In addition to new themes this upcoming season, Fred. Olsen had introduced new cruise itineraries, exploring unique destinations for the first time. The Red Sea, a 28-day cruise from Southampton on the Black Watch, has been a huge success with only 4 categories of cabins left. The cruise departs October 4, 2011 with highlights including: visiting the Egyptian pyramids on an excursion from Alexandria; snorkeling or scuba diving in the Red Sea where you can see some of the most spectacular reefs in the world; and touring the world-famous stone city of Petra, Jordan.

Norway Winter sets sail for a 14-night adventure in search of the Northern Lights. This is the first ever Fred. Olsen winter time sailing to Norway, which is one of the best times of the year to see the Northern Lights. Enjoy an overnight stay in Tromso before you cruise to Alta, your most northern port in Norway. Cruise departs Southampton February 23 on the Boudicca.
