Horse riding insurance for children that puts parents in the saddle
Bought By Many aims to bring parents together to provide £1million of children’s horse riding insurance cover to help with serious injuries
17 January 2013 – Bought By Many, a new company aiming to bring people power to insurance, is looking to bring parents together for a new policy which increases protection for young riders in the event of serious injuries. With many policies providing insufficient cover, horse riding insurance for children provides up to £1m of cover to help parents if their children suffer riding injuries which lead to paralysis. Bought By Many will use group buying power and social media to bring people together to drive premiums down - the more people who sign up, the cheaper the policy will become.
Horse riding can bring with it the risk of catastrophic spinal injury and academic studies have shown that young amateur female riders are particularly at risk, with jumping and point to point being the most dangerous activities. However, the personal accident provision in typical horse rider insurance policies falls short of the costs associated with life-altering conditions like quadriplegia and paraplegia. Last year, Aheed Osman, a consultant at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries in Oswestry who treated showjumper Tim Stockdale for his broken neck said he was seeing more spinal injuries as a result of riding accidents than from rugby and a “dramatic rise” in spinal cases across all levels.
Steven Mendel,CEO and Co-Founder of Bought By Many commented: “People are of course aware of the risks associated with horse riding, which have been highlighted by high-profile causalities like the late actor Christopher Reeve, who was left quadriplegic after his horse refused at a jump in an equestrian event in 1995. However, most rider insurance policies such as those from Pet Plan Equine and the British Horse Society provide between £10k & £20k of cover which is simply not enough. We wanted to change that.”
“While insurance can't ever take away the risk of injury, we feel it's important for parents to have the option of additional financial protection,” he continued. “That's why we've created a new personal accident insurance policy for children which will provide greater peace of mind for parents of young riders”

About Bought By Many
Bought By Many uses social media to level the insurance playing field for consumers. It connects people with similar insurance needs in social buying groups. These groups can consist of people who share a postcode, a profession, a passion – or anything else. It then creates the opportunity to buy insurance on more favourable terms than would be available to them as individuals. And for insurers, it creates the opportunity to reach the risk segments they most value, profitably, and at meaningful scale. For more information visit boughtbymany.com.
